Dr Stephen K Burke, Maritime Division, DST
Dr Stephen Burke is Group Leader of Acoustic Material Systems with responsibility for leading and developing non-destructive evaluation techniques for composite propeller blades as part of the Advanced Material propeller program with the United States. Dr Burke’s work is vital to the program in being able to detect damage in the prototype composite blades as they undergo fatigue testing by DST.
Dr Burke has many achievements over his 30-year career developing highly innovative science and technology to support the structural integrity management of ADF platforms. His work has been critical in ensuring the safe operation of ADF air and maritime platforms as well as the safety of ADF personnel.
Dr Andrew Amiet, Maritime Division, DST
Dr Andrew Amiet is Head of the Electromagnetic Signature Management and Anechoics Group, DST Melbourne, with responsibility for developing materials to manage the signatures of ADF platforms. These signatures include the radar cross sec on (RCS), infrared (IR), visible and active acoustic signatures.
While Dr Amiet’s research has predominantly focused on developing radar absorbing materials (RAM) for submarines and ships, he has also contributed tor educing other signatures of ADF aircraft, army vehicles and surface ships.
