Research Project Summary:
SUBMERGED HOLLOW FIBRE MEMBRANES IN BUBBLING SYSTEMS
This research focuses on studying the effect of bubble characteristics and fibre properties on fibre
movement in submerged hollow fibre membranes. These factors are then associated with the microfiltration
performance. The observation involves video camera recording which allows us to analyse the bubble size
distribution, bubble velocity, and fibre movement. The influence of various parameters (fibre looseness, fibre
diameter, fibre length, diffuser size, and feed concentration) on the critical flux is also analysed. The concept
of critical flux in bubbling system will be determined by studying the cake removal on membrane surface by bubbles.
